1. 1980s to 90s-The first ever phones to be used had the embedded system.. A kinda simple os that ran on simple phones. At that time phones were a complex concept and so were made like mini computers with a single function to make and receive calls. The os were always uni-purpose..
2. 1996-The palm os
The original palm os was produced for PDAs(Personal Digital Assistants).. The os was produced with recognition for screen touch and support for only a few personal information organizer/manager… The palm os was a bit advanced at the time it was produced-1996.. The palm os has advanced over time and is now known as web os (2008)….
3. 1996 –The Windows CE was a simple way to put the windows operating system on a phone. It was a simple os whose support was for keypad and simple digital assistant function.. Made by Microsoft for mobiles.. The Microsoft’s windows on mobile has advanced pver time from windows Ce to windows phone 7 in 2010 to window phone 8 and 8.1 in 2014 and windows mobile 10 in 2015..
4. 1999- The s40
Remember nokia 3110? This kinda phones were the earlier types of phones to power the s40 phones . The s40 was a basic os i.e limits you to the basic functions of just calls and text messaging.. But over time the os has been upgraded to support java(apps and games) and access the internet..
5. 2000- The symbian os or S60 os
.. The symbian os was pretty advanced over in comparison to the s40 as it came with support for all features expected of an internet phones in the early 2000s. The os was the king all along the the 2000s before the introduction of the ios and android os and held on for a while until it was discontinued. It progress: S60v1,v2,v3,v5,v5^1,v5^2,v5^3.. At its peak it was released as the symbian anna and belle. And the belle fp2 was the last update given to this os before it was discontinued by nokia who owned the project..
6. 2002-BlackBerry os
In 2002 BlackBerry released their os for their blackberry smartphone. Actually the blackberry os had been in existence sinve 1999 but the first time it ever featured on a real smartphone was in 2002.
7. 2005-Maemo os–
The maemo was a linux based mobile os from nokia that ran on the nokia N770.. It was a variation by nokia from it champion os the symbian… The maemo was later terminated in favour of the meego os that was still linux based
8.2007- Ios
In 2007 Apple released the Ios on its first generation phones,the os was has been upgraded over time to the latest Ios 9.3.3 that was released on july 18,2016…
9. 2008- Android
Open Handset alliance(formed by-htc,samsumg,Google,dell,intel and some other giant tech companies) released android 1.0 for smartphones,the first being htc dream… The os current update is the android 6.1,although android 7 is expected to be released before 2017…
